Are you looking for a summer job and interested in a trainee position at Visma? Don't miss out on Johanna and Liina's tips for the different stages of the application process!
The path to Visma: different journeys, same stop
Despite their diverse educational backgrounds and work experiences, both Johanna and Liina ended up applying for marketing trainee positions at Visma Solutions. The trainees’ journey to Visma can involve different kinds of paths. Varying backgrounds foster creativity and innovation, and the summer trainee program takes into account applicants' preferences and skills, ensuring that the work tasks support the growth of both the company and the trainee.
Johanna: Last spring, I was almost done with my master’s degree and looking for different steps I could take in my career path. I already had a positive impression of Visma, so I jumped at the chance as soon as I noticed on Instagram that Visma Solutions was looking for marketing interns.
I didn’t major in marketing, but I had already gained skills both through practical work experience and by completing a marketing minor. I recently graduated from the University of Lapland with a Master’s degree in Social Sciences in the Management program, and my previous work experience is from marketing within the energy sector.
So, applying to Visma Solutions meant that I was facing a completely new field: SaaS marketing. The industry was new to me, but I was already used to complex topics and products. For me, an internship at Visma Solutions felt like an excellent opportunity to utilize and develop my existing skills through new challenges, and that’s the main reason I applied. The outcome of the recruitment process was the best possible for me: this summer, I have had the opportunity to strengthen the two-person marketing team of Netvisor KYC.
Liina: As my first year of master’s studies at Aalto University was coming to an end, I wanted to find an internship that suited my major in marketing. While searching for a summer position, I found a marketing trainee role at Visma Solutions on LinkedIn and the job description caught my eye. Previously, I had worked at another SaaS company and really enjoyed the IT sector and its work culture. The job listing aligned well with my own career goals and marketing interests, so I decided to apply. I was a little nervous since I had found the posting just days before the deadline, but submitting my application shortly before it didn't prevent me from getting an interview.
After a successful first interview, I was invited to the next round. Before the second interview, I was given a pre-assignment to prepare and present there, and soon after, I was offered the marketing trainee position at Visma Sign. Overall, the recruitment process was smooth from an applicant's perspective. Information was communicated actively, and all interactions throughout the process were friendly.

Motivated by variety and responsibility
Both Liina and Johanna emphasize the variety in their workdays as a positive experience. As a trainee, you are responsible for your own projects, but you also have the freedom to organize your work in the way that feels most natural to you.
Johanna: One of my biggest enjoyments this summer has been the fact that no day is exactly the same as the one before. Some things, however, rarely change. I always start my day by updating my calendar and to-do list while drinking my morning coffee.
My role covers a wide variety of marketing projects, from event coordination to content creation and marketing development based on analysis. For example, I have designed social media content concepts, contacted customers for testimonial interviews, and taken part in organizing brand photoshoots for the Netvisor KYC team.
Lunch breaks have been an amazing opportunity to get to know colleagues! Whether you’re eating homemade packed lunch or a takeaway meal, gathering around the same lunch table builds a sense of togetherness. That is a great example of the office’s and Visma’s culture.
At the end of the day, I jot down the things I have on my mind. That way, it’s easy for me to pick up right where I left off the next morning.
Liina: My typical workday starts with reading messages and emails, checking the day’s agenda, and updating our social media channels. My days are mainly spent making progress with projects given to me, attending meetings, and focusing on professional development. Over the summer, my projects have included content planning, writing newsletters, analyzing the industry, and reviewing chatbots. I've had the opportunity to gain broad exposure to different marketing functions across the funnel and use a wide range of marketing tools.

Liina spent her traineeship in the Visma Sign team.
I particularly enjoy that my workdays can vary quite a bit and I can influence in completing my tasks — for example, when, where, and how I do them. While this has required good time management skills, the freedom to work in my own style has been a fantastic opportunity. Regardless of what the day entails, we've had a shared lunch break with other marketing team members in the office every day, which has been one of the highlights of the summer!
A real member of the team
A work environment that encourages experimentation and provides room to grow creates an internship experience where you can truly learn something new. The support and trust of the team help you advance in your career and make it possible to challenge yourself.
Johanna: At Visma, trainees are trusted with real responsibilities. I appreciate how trainees’ strengths, previous skills, and future aspirations are put to use. You’re not here just to run errands – you’re immediately part of the team and get to take ownership of your own projects. Responsibility doesn’t mean you’re left alone: support is always close by. Visma is a modern company with low hierarchy, which makes it easy to ask for help both within your own team and beyond. You genuinely want to come to the office, because the atmosphere is relaxed and the people are just the best!
Liina: I've really enjoyed my time at Visma. The large marketing team has been supportive throughout the summer, and there's always been company at the office. During the internship, I've had the chance to visit Visma Solutions' other office in Lappeenranta and participate in various recreational and training events. I feel like I've been very well-integrated into the team, and it's been easy to settle in here. At Visma Solutions, I particularly appreciate the relaxed and encouraging atmosphere, the freedom to work in my own style, and the commitment to well-being at work.
Johanna and Liina’s tips for applying
- Highlight your skills and interests
Confidently express your own skills and think about how you could concretely apply them in the position you’re applying for. Also highlight what interests you in the field and in the future, and explain how these interests could be combined in the job you’re applying for.
- Build yourself a project portfolio
Especially when applying for marketing positions, building a project portfolio is a great way to showcase your skills and demonstrate how you approach tasks. Even if you don’t have previous work experience, you can build a portfolio by designing and “executing” fictional campaigns or brand redesigns.
- Don’t leave writing the application until the last day
You’ll get better results if you write your application over several days. That way you’ll minimize typos and spot unnecessary filler sentences.
- See interviewers as people
Don’t just focus on producing concise and informative answers. A job interview is also your opportunity to learn about the company and build connections. Engage in conversation, ask questions, and show genuine interest throughout the interview. Think in advance what you’d like to know about Visma.
- Be yourself
Visma values people as individuals, and you’re encouraged to show your personality. So even in the interview, don’t try to change who you are – just relax and be yourself: that’ll take you far!
